Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. received a generous donation of $1 million this week for its Hoyt Science Center Renovation and Expansion Project from alumni Will and Carol Jean Young Maurer. The Maurers, who are both graduates of Westminster College, were honored with the unveiling of the Maurer Atrium within the expanded wing of the Hoyt Science Center. President Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson announced the Maurers’ donation during the dedication ceremony.

The Maurers’ gift will support the final phase of the Hoyt Science Center project, which includes a nursing simulation lab, the Harms Center for the Environment, department updates, and mechanical upgrades. Additionally, the Maurers have established an endowed scholarship for students from Belle Vernon Area High School and Elizabeth Forward High School. Recently, an expansion wing for the chemistry and biochemistry departments was completed as part of the Hoyt Science Center project. In recent years, Westminster College has undergone significant renovations on its science center building with an expansion wing now complete for chemistry and biochemistry departments.

President Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson thanked Mr., Mrs., young maurer during a dedication ceremony held on campus where she announced their donation towards completing this project.

The couple holds Bachelor of Science degrees in economics and business administration from Westminster College.
