Mental health is an increasingly important topic in today’s society, and West Virginia University (WVU) is taking steps to ensure that its faculty and staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support students who may be struggling. WVU, in partnership with the Carruth Center, is offering a virtual Mental Health 101 Training on June 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., or on July 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
During this 90-minute training session, participants will explore a range of topics related to mental health, including current national statistics and specific characteristics related to WVU. Effective listening skills will also be discussed, as well as an overview of the services offered by the Carruth Center and the CARE Team. Warning signs of suicide will be covered, along with guidance on how to safely intervene when students are in distress.
By attending this training, faculty and staff can gain valuable knowledge and skills that will help them better support their students who may be struggling with mental health challenges.
