The West Indies’ team showcased their dominance in the final first-round match of the Twenty20 World Cup against Afghanistan. With a mix of elegance and power, left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran scored an outstanding 98 runs, including eight sixes. His impressive performance helped secure a 104-run victory for his team.

Pooran joined in with Brandon King and Johnson Charles, who set the tone by hitting boundaries off the Afghan bowlers. Despite efforts by Afghanistan’s bowlers to slow down the West Indies’ scoring rate, the team continued to rack up runs. By the end of the innings, they had posted a formidable total of 218 runs.

In their chase, Afghanistan struggled to keep up with the required run rate and finished with 114 runs in 16.2 overs. West Indies’ bowlers led by Obed McCoy applied pressure from the start, restricting Afghanistan’s scoring opportunities. McCoy impressed with his variations in length and pace, finishing with figures of three for 14.
