Shamar Joseph and Shimron Hetmyer have been selected to represent West Indies in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Hetmyer, who missed his flight to the 2022 tournament, is back in the squad along with Alzarri Joseph, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, and Jason Holder. Joseph, known for his exceptional performance in a Test match at the Gabba, has also been given a surprise call-up despite his limited T20 experience.

Daren Sammy, the West Indies head coach, confirmed that Sunil Narine was not in consideration for the squad as he remains retired from international cricket. Sammy also mentioned that the West Indies Cricket Board had requested the BCCI to release their players from the ongoing IPL in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup.

The West Indies find themselves in Group C alongside Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand, and Afghanistan for the tournament. Their first two matches will be played in Guyana followed by games in Trinidad and St Lucia. The squad is led by captain Rovman Powell with Alzarri Joseph as vice-captain and includes a mix of experienced players like Russell and Holder as well as promising talents like Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie.
