Minnesota’s dance team competition history is marked by a Wayzata era, with the Trojans achieving remarkable success in jazz and high kick divisions. Between 2006 and 2010, they won four out of five jazz dance titles and clinched another victory in 2012. Wayzata swept both divisions in 2019, winning jazz again in 2018. The Trojans have a long-standing tradition of excellence, dating back to the earliest years of Minnesota high school dance competition, which commenced in 1975. They won their first title in 1978 and repeated the feat in 1980 when there was only one division instead of the current two.

Despite their recent drought, the Trojans re-emerged mid-February, claiming victory in jazz and finishing a close second in high kick. This resurgence has earned them the title of All-Metro Sports Awards Dance Team of the Year for 2024. With their eighth Class 3A jazz title and thirteenth championship overall, Wayzata coach Alyse Eichorst expressed her pride after the state championships: “I’m very proud of the hard work, effort, and energy we brought to the table.”
