In some cases, a diet rich in water can even eliminate the need for drinking water altogether. Water is essential for maintaining body fluids and salt levels. Mikael Segerstråle, a university lecturer in physiology and neuroscience at the University of Helsinki, emphasizes the importance of water intake for human survival. Insufficient water intake can lead to complications such as thickening of the blood, which can affect cell function and ultimately cause organ failure. The body signals its need for water through the sensation of thirst. Additionally, the body can conserve water by reducing sweating and producing more concentrated urine, giving individuals more time to find water to drink. According to evaluations, a person can survive without drinking water for approximately three days. After this period, the body will not have enough water available, which can result in death. However, the duration can vary depending on environmental conditions. In dry and hot environments, the body loses fluids more rapidly, shortening the time frame.
