Italian coach Walter Mazzarri is set to take on a new challenge with Iranian club Persepolis FC. The 62-year-old has been chosen to lead the team, following his recent stint with Napoli in Serie A and the Champions League.

Mazzarri’s time at Napoli this season was short-lived, as he was let go after a mixed run of results. With six wins, three draws, and eight defeats in all competitions, the Partenopei decided to part ways with the coach.

This move to Persepolis FC will mark Mazzarri’s second coaching role abroad, having previously managed English club Watford in the 2016-17 season. His extensive coaching career includes stints at Livorno, Reggina, Sampdoria, Inter, Torino, and Cagliari.

Persepolis FC recently clinched the Persian Gulf Pro League title, but their Brazilian coach decided to leave after the victory. Mazzarri will now step in to guide the team, becoming the second Italian coach in Iran after Andrea Stramaccioni’s brief tenure at Esteghlal in 2019.
