A group of nearly a dozen Buddhist monks has recently arrived in Western New York as part of their journey from Key West, Florida to Niagara Falls. Their purpose is to raise awareness about achieving world peace. The monks have been traveling for over 2,000 miles, and on Monday they passed through the Southern Tier on Route 5 and Route 20, eventually making their way towards Grand Island and Terrapin Point.

The walk for world peace began on March 31, with monks from various parts of the world walking an average of 30 miles per day. During their journey, they have stopped at various locations, including the Native Pride Travel Plaza where they received a Seneca Nation flag and refreshments. The monks rely on the kindness of local communities to support them on their pilgrimage, traveling light with minimal clothing, blankets, and food.
