At the young age of 21, Lexi Bogan from Rhode Island faced a life-threatening situation when she underwent surgery to remove a vascular tumor near the back of her brain. Although the surgery was successful and saved her life, Lexi struggled with speech impairment after the breathing tube was removed during her recovery.

Months passed, and healthcare professionals at Rhode Island’s Lifespan Hospital group introduced Lexi to an AI program called OpenAI. Using Voice Engine technology, OpenAI replicated Lexi’s voice by creating a voice-cloning technology. This innovative technology allows Lexi to input phrases into an app and have them repeated in an audio clip using her own voice.

The AI-generated voice recording technology has enabled Lexi to communicate more effectively, bringing a sense of normalcy back to her life. For example, she can use the custom-built app to place orders at drive-thrus and hear her voice speaking out the order. The realistic sound of her voice, including her laughter, has allowed Lexi to connect with others in a way that she thought she had lost forever.

Lexi’s experience demonstrates the incredible advancements in AI technology and its ability to transform lives. With the help of OpenAI and Voice Engine technology, Lexi has regained her voice and been able to communicate once again.
