Groupement Berkine, a partnership between Sonatrach, Occidental Petroleum, and other international collaborators, has chosen Viridien to conduct the seismic imaging of a 3400 km2 high-density onshore data set in blocks B404a and B208 of the Berkine Basin in Eastern Algeria. This project aims to provide new subsurface insights and enhance the resolution of the target area’s thin and faulted geology. Viridien’s team of experts at their Subsurface Imaging center in France will utilize an advanced imaging workflow to analyze the dataset, drawing from their experience in imaging similar large land seismic surveys in the Middle East.

Peter Whiting, EVP of Geoscience at Viridien, expressed that the company was chosen for this project due to its cutting-edge imaging technology and high-performance computing capabilities. With a history of work in Algeria dating back to the 1950s, extensive geological knowledge of the Hassi Messaoud Basin, and successful completion of reimaging projects in the country, Viridien is positioned as the preferred partner for delivering high-quality subsurface images that will support critical field development decisions.
