Villa is a leading English soccer club, known for its women’s team that has been promoted to the Women’s Super League (WSL) in 2020. The team has maintained its position in the top tier since then and is currently seeking a new manager after Carla Ward resigned at the end of the previous season.

Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, an Icelandic coach, is one of the top contenders for the role. She left her job at Kristianstads DFF in November following a 15-year tenure, and has since been discussed as a potential candidate by Villa. Although former Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro was initially considered for the position, he opted to join Lyon instead. Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith, who guided her team to promotion to the WSL in 2023 but later experienced relegation in 2024, is also being considered by Villa.

Despite Elisabet’s previous experience as an assistant for the Iceland national team and her strong reputation in coaching circles, it is uncertain whether she will be appointed as Villa’s new manager. Nevertheless, it is clear that the club is determined to maintain its position among England’s top women’s soccer teams and continue to compete at the highest level on both domestic and international stages.
