The Central Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, located in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, is currently facing a crisis as many officers have been arrested. This has left the agency without staff, causing concern among health leaders. An emergency meeting is being held to find a solution to this issue.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen had directed inspection units to strengthen management in the wake of the arrests. The Ministry of Health leaders are meeting with facilities in the national forensic psychiatric assessment system to provide guidance on addressing difficulties at the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry.
The arrests involved Dr. Le Van Hung, the Institute’s Director, and his subordinates on charges related to patient assessment and treatment records. Thirteen officials from the Bien Hoa Central Institute of Forensic Psychiatry have been arrested and summoned to Ho Chi Minh City for investigation as of June 16. This Institute, established in 2015 under the Ministry of Health, performs forensic psychiatric examinations and manages and treats individuals with mental disorders under compulsory treatment measures.
Deputy Director Nguyen Van Duc had requested guidance from the Ministry of Health to stabilize human resources at the Institute. Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan emphasized that immediate solutions would be provided when incidents occur in any unit under the Ministry’s management. The Ministry has issued guidelines in the past and continues to monitor similar establishments to prevent negative behavior.
Meetings and interventions are ongoing to address the staffing crisis and maintain the Institute’s functions. The Ministry is committed to ensuring that patients receive high-quality care despite these challenges.
