On May 22, 2024, veterans in Laredo and the surrounding areas are invited to attend a VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend event at The University of Texas at Laredo. During this event, attendees will learn about phase two of the PACT Act and how it affects their eligibility for VA health care and benefits.

The event will be held at the Education & Research Center at Laredo, located at 1937 Bustamante Street, Laredo, Texas 78041. It is open to all veterans, their families, and survivors who wish to apply for the health care and benefits they have earned.

As of March 5, 2024, all veterans who were exposed to toxins or hazards while serving in the military are now eligible to enroll directly in VA health care. This means that veterans who served in the Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq or Afghanistan or any other combat zone after 9/11 can now enroll without first applying for VA benefits. Additionally, veterans who were exposed to hazards while training or on active duty in the United States are also eligible to enroll.

The VA health care enrollment event and PACT Act Town Hall will take place on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m. Local leadership will be available for interviews upon request and media should RSVP to Hugo Martinez at Hugo.Martinez@va.gov to attend.
