The success of Don James from decades ago is reminiscent of Pete Carroll’s tenure at USC, where he built an empire. While Chris Petersen had a successful tenure at Washington, his retirement was due to reasons other than a decline in performance. Kalen DeBoer also had two strong seasons at Washington before moving on to Alabama after Nick Saban’s unexpected retirement.
