The USA pulled off a historic upset in the T20 World Cup with a thrilling Super Over win over Pakistan in Texas. After both sides scored 159 in their 20 overs at Grand Prairie Stadium, the tournament co-hosts and debutants USA scored 14 runs in the final over to tie Pakistan’s total.

In the Super Over, the USA ramped up the pressure on their opponents by scoring 18 runs. Unable to find an answer, Pakistan fell short by five runs in their quest with the bat finishing on 13. This victory put Group A leaders USA in a commanding 2-0 lead against Pakistan.

USA captain Monank Patel, who won the official player of the match award, described the result as a “big achievement”. “Beating Pakistan, playing for the first time, and playing like we did today I’m really proud of the boys,” he said after the match. It was a complete team effort from start to finish, with credit given to our bowlers who kept them under 160.

Pakistan will have a chance to avenge their loss when they meet India in Group A of the Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday at 3:30pm UK and Ireland time. Build-up for this highly anticipated match will begin on Sky Sports Cricket at 3:00pm. Meanwhile, India is set to face off against Sri Lanka in Group B at New York City’s Yankee Stadium at 8:30 pm ET/5:30 am local time tomorrow (June 14).
