Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, also known as “El Matador”, has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 37. Cavani, who is Uruguay’s second all-time leading scorer and third most-capped player, has scored 58 goals in 136 appearances for his national team.

In a message shared on social media, Cavani expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country, stating that he will always cherish the memories of playing for the Uruguayan national team. He mentioned his dedication to this new stage of his career and emphasized his continued passion for the sport and his country.

Cavani made his debut for Uruguay in 2008 and has participated in four World Cups, with his most memorable performance being in the 2010 World Cup where he helped lead Uruguay to the semi-finals. He was also named the best player of the tournament. Additionally, Cavani played a crucial role in Uruguay’s victory in the 2011 Copa America held in Argentina.

Despite retiring from international football, Cavani stated that he will continue to support and follow his national team with unwavering passion and pride. Having played for renowned clubs such as Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United, Cavani currently plays for Argentine club Boca Juniors.
