Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst has recently highlighted the importance of finalizing Jordan Love’s contract extension before training camp. According to Gutekunst, both sides are highly motivated to get it done, and he anticipates that talks will intensify after the conclusion of this week’s offseason program, with the Packers’ camp scheduled to begin on July 22.

In May 2021, Love signed a multi-year deal worth an estimated $8.789 million signing bonus, increasing his annual pay from $3.6 million to $13.5 million. The Packers have shown faith in Love’s abilities after an impressive season where he passed for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns. They view him as a capable long-term successor to Aaron Rodgers and are willing to compensate him accordingly. Love’s potential deal could be modeled after Jared Goff’s recent extension with the Lions, which averages $53 million per year in pay.

Throughout the entire offseason program, Love has been actively involved in preparing for the upcoming season. As the program concludes this week, discussions about his contract extension are expected to escalate as both sides work towards reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.

Gutekunst stated that he is confident that negotiations will go smoothly and that both parties will agree on a fair deal that reflects Love’s value to the team.

“Jordan has shown great potential and we believe he is a valuable member of our team,” Gutekunst said during a press conference last week.

“We want to ensure that Jordan is rewarded for his hard work and dedication,” he added.

Love himself confirmed this expectation during an interview with ESPN earlier this week.

“I have been kept informed by my agent about the progress of the negotiations,” Love said.

“I am confident that we will come to an agreement before training camp,” he added.

The Packers have been closely monitoring Love’s development since drafting him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has shown promise in limited action so far but has yet to establish himself as a starter in Green Bay.
