The Joe Biden administration has made a request to Congress for $4 billion to fund various projects, including rebuilding the collapsed bridge in Baltimore and strengthening capabilities on the border with Mexico. White House Budget Director Shalanda Young emphasized the urgency of these requests, stating that there are additional demands made by the President in October that need to be addressed to improve border security and address national needs.

Young also reiterated the request for $4 billion and provided revised estimates for the projects. These include repairing damages caused by fires in Hawaii last summer, providing aid after hurricanes in the midwestern United States, and supporting a bipartisan agreement on border security. Young highlighted the importance of addressing issues related to childcare costs for working families and reducing them.

The administration accused Republicans of obstructing immigration reform in Congress following the failure of a bill aimed at strengthening controls on the southern border with Mexico. Young called on Congress to support the proposed projects to enhance national security and address critical issues facing the country. The Senate rejected the bill in May, with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell criticizing Democrats for pushing it before elections. Despite this setback, Young urged Congress to take action and support these projects that are essential for ensuring public safety and well-being.
