The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation (KDA-DOC) has announced the availability of funds for commercial feedlots and dairy operations to improve livestock water efficiency technology. Through the Kansas Livestock Water Efficiency Pilot Project, eligible applicants can receive cost share assistance and incentive payments to promote water conservation in the state and address water challenges.

The initiative is focused on enhancing existing large-scale livestock watering systems by upgrading to high-efficiency livestock waterers and water recycling systems. To be eligible, applicants must have a current livestock water right with the state of Kansas and applications will be accepted until July 31, 2024. Equipment purchases made before approval by KDA-DOC are not eligible for this funding.

Funding for the project comes from the State Water Plan Fund and is administered by KDA-DOC in consultation with the State Conservation Commission. Those interested in applying for this irrigation technology cost share funding can find more information and details on eligibility at www.agriculture.ks.gov/DOCLivestockWater or contact Dave Jones at David.Jones@ks.gov.
