The tragic death of a Ukrainian soldier has brought attention to the “addiction” of soldiers on the frontlines to energy drinks for courage and vigilance. According to a report by The New York Times, a soldier was found dead in a toilet with an energy drink in his hand, despite suffering from heart disease. Soldiers interviewed mentioned that they rely on energy drinks throughout the day, from morning wake-up to patrols and even before attacks. They believe that the drinks provide them with necessary energy for demanding tasks like long distances, heavy loads, and lack of sleep.

Energy drinks have become a staple for soldiers on the frontlines, often preferred over food. Manufacturers market these drinks specifically for the war, using patriotic names like “Folia,” meaning will and challenge. The high caffeine content in these drinks is believed to boost energy levels, along with additives like taurine, vitamin B12, and guarana extract. Despite the risks associated with excessive consumption of these drinks, their popularity continues to rise among civilians as well due to constant missile attacks, anxiety, and lack of sleep.
