Numbness in the limbs can be caused by a variety of reasons, including spinal disc herniation, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, stroke, radiculopathy, and atherosclerosis. This common condition can significantly impact an individual’s daily life and may cause mild symptoms such as numbness in the fingertips, tingling, cramps, and aches. However, over time these symptoms can worsen and spread down the arms and legs, making movement difficult.

Dr. Pham Thi Xuan Thu from the Orthopedic Trauma Center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City explained that there are many underlying causes of numbness in the hands and feet. These include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative spine conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and others. Additionally, factors like diabetes, thyroid disorders, Raynaud’s syndrome, and vitamin deficiencies can also contribute to numbness in the limbs.

It is essential to address the underlying causes of numbness in the hands and feet to prevent long-term consequences such as loss of function and paralysis. If symptoms persist for more than six weeks or if there is concern about any medical conditions or other factors contributing to numbness in the limbs it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. Early detection and treatment can prevent further complications and improve quality of life for those affected by this common condition.
