In the aftermath of the 2024 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos made a strategic move by signing undrafted free agent cornerback Quinton Newsome. Standing at 6-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Newsome is poised to join the Broncos following his college football career at the University of Nebraska from 2019 to 2023.

Throughout his time with the Cornhuskers, Newsome appeared in 53 games and started 35 of them. He amassed an impressive record during his college years, accumulating 148 tackles, including 94 solo tackles and 55 assisted tackles. Additionally, he recorded seven tackles for loss, three sacks, 18 passes defensed, and one interception. Notably, his interception came in the 2023 season against Illinois.

Newsome’s standout performance in the 2022 season set new career highs for him in various categories such as tackles for loss, sacks, passes defended, and forced fumbles. Despite not being an immediate starter for the Broncos, there is potential for undrafted free agents to make significant contributions to the team’s defense. One example is Ja’Quan McMillian who started one game in 2022 and has become a crucial member of the Broncos’ secondary. Although Newsome faces long odds of making the active roster, he will have an opportunity to showcase his skills during training camp this summer. If he doesn’t secure a spot on the active roster immediately following training camp, there is a possibility that he could land on the practice squad similar to McMillian’s journey three years ago.

In conclusion, while Newsome may not be an immediate starter for the Broncos at this time; however with hard work and dedication he could prove himself as a valuable asset to their defense just like other undrafted free agents before him have done so successfully in previous seasons.
