In the United States, health care spending is projected to skyrocket to $7.7 trillion by 2032, according to new data from federal actuaries. This represents a staggering increase of $2.9 trillion compared to last year, and is expected to grow annually by 5.6% from 2023 to 2032, exceeding the projected 4.3% inflation rate for this period. By 2032, health care will represent almost 20% of the GDP, up from 17.3% in 2022.

The pandemic has greatly impacted health care spending, with an estimated growth of 7.5% in 2023 after the COVID-19 public health emergency ended. The actuaries also suggest that health care spending and health insurance enrollment trends will be influenced by measures enacted in response to the public health emergency in the years to come.
