Jamey Tucker recently interviewed an expert to discuss the importance of having strong passwords. In light of World Password Day, it is crucial to remember tips for keeping our accounts secure. Troy Hunt, the creator of the password checker website “HaveIBeenPwned,” emphasized that using the same password for multiple accounts can lead to serious consequences if it is compromised.

One helpful solution is using passkeys, which allow users to sign into accounts with 2-factor authentication. Authenticator apps can also be used for added security, such as signing in with a fingerprint or face scan on a second device. Another option is the Yubikey, a physical NFC device that simplifies password entry with a fingerprint tap.

Password managers like OnePassword and LastPass can also help by using a Master Password to unlock unique passwords for each account. Another useful strategy is creating a secret code, a 12-character password that can be memorized and used for all accounts by adding the first two letters of the account somewhere in the code.

While these methods may be more complex than using simple passwords like “12345,” they are easier to implement than expected and are crucial for protecting your online accounts. It is essential to take these precautions to safeguard your personal information.
