The BTOS data is a vital resource for gaining insights into the state of the US economy, excluding farms. This data is collected from around 1.2 million businesses that are surveyed biweekly, and it provides valuable information on key economic measures every two weeks.

Each selected business is asked to report data every 12 weeks for a year, and the Census Bureau estimates that it takes the average respondent about nine minutes to complete the survey, from reviewing the instructions to providing answers. The sample includes six panels, with each panel consisting of approximately 200,000 cases.

The data collected from these surveys will be released biweekly and will be available by sector, state, and the 25 most populous metropolitan statistical areas. This information is vital for local, state, and federal officials to make informed policy and decision-making as well as helping businesses with their economic decisions.
