In order to improve your putting game, understanding why putts are missed is crucial. Often, golfers attribute their struggles to technical issues with their strokes when the real problem lies in their ability to read greens accurately. Improving green-reading skills can significantly lower scores and hinder performance on the course.

Ralph Bauer, a putting coach who works with PGA Tour players, has extensively studied green reading and its impact on a player’s game. During a live webinar exclusively for Golf Digest+ members on June 6 at 8 p.m. ET, he will discuss the art and science of green reading, highlighting common mistakes players make and how they can be rectified. He will share valuable insights on how to improve your green-reading skills and eliminate variables that could affect your putting performance.

Bauer’s contributions to enhancing green reading include the Tour Read app, which he developed with an engineer. Although not allowed for use in competition, this app utilizes the iPhone’s gyroscope to measure slope and provide accurate putting recommendations. Its success on the PGA Tour demonstrates its effectiveness in training players to read greens with precision.

In his webinar, Bauer will delve into topics such as optical illusions, common misjudgments, and practical green-reading techniques. His goal is to equip golfers with the knowledge and skills needed to excel on the putting green, regardless of their skill level or experience. By mastering the art of green reading, golfers can significantly improve their game and lower their scores.
