Ethanol upgrades for older cars are a simple solution to reducing pollution and fuel consumption. This upgrade involves modifying the car’s gasoline engine to run on E85 fuel, a mixture of ethanol and gasoline. The Transport and Communications Committee of the Parliament has completed its report on the government’s proposal to restore conversion subsidies for ethanol upgrades.

However, opposition parties proposed an amendment to extend the application period and increase the conversion allowance to 350 euros, but this was not approved. The law will now proceed to the plenary session of parliament, with conversion subsidies available from July 1st, 2021. Motorists can receive a subsidy of 200 euros for updating their gasoline cars to run on renewable ethanol after passing an inspection.

The conversion subsidy program will run until December 15th, 2024, with around 2.4 million euros available for ethanol upgrades this year. To qualify for the subsidy, cars must undergo a conversion inspection to use ethanol. The European Parliament elections are crucial for shaping future climate policies as decisions made at the EU level have an impact on Finland as well.

E85 fuel is sold at regular gas stations in Finland and is often made from domestic waste and residues, reducing fossil emissions by up to 80%. However, changes in taxation could help lower the cost of E85 fuel and promote its use in Finland by incentivizing alternative fuels such as bioethanol-powered cars have lower vehicle tax compared to gasoline cars.

In conclusion, ethanol upgrades are a simple yet effective way to reduce pollution and fuel consumption in older cars. With the availability of conversion subsidies from July 1st, 2021 and until December 15th, 2024, motorists can update their gasoline cars to run on renewable ethanol with financial support from the government. Additionally, changes in taxation could help lower the cost of E85 fuel and promote its use in Finland by incentivizing alternative fuels such as bioethanol-powered cars have lower vehicle tax compared to gasoline cars.

Finally, it is important that policymakers continue working towards promoting sustainable transportation options such as electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles through initiatives like providing charging infrastructure or incentives for purchasing them.

As we move towards a more sustainable future it’s important that we take action today towards reducing our carbon footprint and promoting cleaner transportation options like ethanol upgrades or electric vehicles.
