France’s star player, Kylian Mbappe, sustained a facial injury in the 1-0 victory over Austria to kick off their EURO 2024 campaign in Germany. During a duel for the ball in the box, Mbappe’s header missed the target and instead hit the shoulder of Austria’s Kevin Danso. As a result, Mbappe was left bloodied and needed treatment from trainers on the field.
Despite the injury, Mbappe played a pivotal role in France’s win by providing a hard cross that led to an own goal in the first half. Although he had a chance for a brace, Mbappe couldn’t capitalize on it.
It remains uncertain if Mbappe will miss any playing time or need to wear a mask to protect his injury, similar to Josko Gvardiol during the previous World Cup. However, injuries are always part of football, and Mbappe’s resilience and talent make him an exceptional player who is likely to recover from this setback.
