In Somerville, Massachusetts, a 60-year-old man named Jose Mendez is facing charges for assaulting two women while operating an unlicensed chiropractic business. Mendez is charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and indecent exposure.

According to the Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan, Mendez was running his illegal business on Cross Street in Somerville. Prosecutors say that two women were inappropriately touched during treatment sessions. In one incident, Mendez allegedly unzipped his pants and exposed himself to one of the women.

Mendez was arraigned in Somerville District Court, where his bail was set at $5,500, and he was ordered to stay away from the victims. The judge also prohibited Mendez from practicing as a chiropractor. Mendez’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.

WBZ-TV interviewed Mendez after his arrest, where he denied the allegations but did not offer further comment, stating he needed to speak to his lawyer. Matt Schooley of CBS News is a digital producer at CBS Boston and has been a member of the WBZ news team for the past decade.
