The music industry giant, Universal Music Group, has been making waves in the health sector through its digital partnerships with startups such as MedRhythms, Music Health, and soundBrilliance. The company’s commitment to mental health and well-being is evident through its launch of a music-focused website for dementia carers and its own wellness app called Sollos.

Recent patent filings uncovered by MBW reveal that Sollos has some unique features under development. A patent filing outlines the creation of ‘binaural’ beats in digital audio files, which are meant to induce desired mental states in users like neural entrainment, improved focus, relaxation and more. Elio Quinton, UMG’s VP of artificial intelligence, is credited as the inventor. The patent suggests that UMG has developed technology to incorporate these beats into existing music tracks.

UMG announced plans for the Sollos app last September, describing it as a music-centric wellness app utilizing cognitive science and proprietary audio technology to promote focus, relaxation and sleep. This aligns with the binaural beats technology outlined in the patent filing, hinting at a strong connection between the app’s features and UMG’s innovative approach to mental health and well-being.
