The 16th Biennial Scientific Conference on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) will be held from Sept. 3 through 5 in Big Sky, Montana, announced Yellowstone National Park (YNP). The conference will focus on advancing conservation in the GYE and will highlight scientific study in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. While the public is welcome to attend the conference, there is a registration fee.

Since 1991, the Biennial Scientific Conference on the GYE has been a critical forum for sharing science between researchers, land and resource managers, conservation groups, Tribal communities, the public, and other stakeholders. This year’s conference will provide an opportunity for participants to convey their scientific findings, discuss management needs, share perspectives, and propose solutions to improve landscape-scale coordination and ensure the GYE continues to thrive over the next 60 years.

Keynote speakers at this year’s conference include Professor Robert Keiter of Gonzaga University Law School’s Environmental Law Clinic; Tom Olliff of Yellowstone National Park Service’s Intermountain Region Manager for Climate Change and Landscape Conservation; and Francine Madden of Center for Conservation Peacebuilding as Executive Director. The conference will also acknowledge the 60th anniversary of the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee, providing an opportunity to reflect on past research and conservation accomplishments while seeking solutions to challenges facing the GYE such as development outside of national parks and a changing climate.
