United Group is set to begin construction on the largest optical network in Southeast Europe, known as “United Fiber.” The network will span four markets within the EU, including Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. A total investment of 450 million euros is planned for this project.

The Group has already successfully established United Fiber in Greece in 2021 and continued to build out the fixed line portfolio infrastructure in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. The Vice President for Technology at United Group, Žjko Batistić, emphasized the Group’s expertise in building and implementing modern fixed infrastructure.

The consolidation of investments in “United Fiber” will allow the Group to expand its activities, create synergies, and enhance its investment capacities. In each of the four markets, including Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia, the Group has made significant progress in expanding its optical network infrastructure. Greece has achieved a penetration rate of 20 percent on their own optical infrastructure while Bulgaria has the largest optical network with plans to reach 67 percent of households by 2028. In Croatia they are covering about 80 thousand households annually with plans to reach 40 percent of all households by 2028 and in Slovenia they own the second-largest network with gigabit speeds covering approximately 50 percent of households.
