Ukraine’s military has turned to drones as a solution to the decrease in its arsenal of artillery shells. These unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become crucial for delivering ammunition with precision over long distances, provided they maintain connections with GPS satellites and their operators. However, communication signals can be jammed, posing a challenge for Ukraine due to Russia’s effective electronic warfare tactics.

In response to this issue, Ukrainian drone technologists have developed Eagle Eyes, an innovative software package that enables drones to navigate autonomously using only visual information. By utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms, Eagle Eyes compares live video of the terrain below with a pre-existing map constructed from reconnaissance aircraft data. This allows drones to carry out their missions even when faced with signal jamming.

The development of Eagle Eyes represents a significant advancement for Ukraine’s military capabilities. By providing drones with the ability to operate independently and continue with their missions despite electronic warfare interference, the software enhances Ukraine’s defense strategy and strengthens its position in conflict situations.
