The US is set to provide Ukraine with another Patriot air defense system in order to bolster its defense against potential Russian air attacks. President Joe Biden made this decision following high-level meetings last week, as reported by the New York Times on Tuesday.

The new Patriot system from the USA is currently located in Poland and could be deployed on the Ukrainian front in the coming days. This would mark the second Patriot air defense system that the USA has offered to Ukraine, with the first being approved by Biden a year and a half ago. The US government regularly supplies Patriot missiles to Ukraine for defense purposes.

The Patriot anti-aircraft missile system is known as one of the most advanced in the world, designed to combat various aerial threats including enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. The system utilizes radar to classify potential threats in the sky and can engage targets at distances of up to 100 kilometers and altitudes of 30 kilometers, depending on the type of guided missile used.

In addition to the US initiative, Germany has already delivered two Patriot systems to Ukraine with another one in the pipeline. Ukrainian soldiers are currently undergoing training on these systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyj expressed gratitude for this support in a recent speech at the German Bundestag.

While President Biden prepares to depart for Italy for a G7 summit, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin is scheduled to travel to Brussels for a meeting of NATO defense ministers. The ongoing support for Ukraine through the provision of air defense systems highlights ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s defenses against potential threats.
