On Saturday, the House of Representatives approved a significant aid package for Ukraine, adding to the support provided by the United States during the war. The package is worth approximately 60.8 billion dollars or 57.2 billion euros. Prior to this aid, the US had promised Ukraine around 68.7 billion euros by mid-January, according to calculations by Kiel’s Institute of the World Economy.

The aid package includes both military assistance and loans to support Ukraine’s government, energy, and infrastructure needs, totaling around 9-12 billion euros. While the Senate still needs to approve the aid package, it is expected to be voted on in the near future. Once approved by the Senate, President Joe Biden will sign it into law. Delivery of certain weapons systems included in the package could be relatively quick, with some potentially reaching Ukraine within a week.

The aid package has raised speculation about whether it will be the last military assistance given to Ukraine before November’s presidential elections. Despite political implications, this aid is crucial for Ukraine’s defense capabilities and intelligence cooperation. Additionally, this aid also helps replenish America’s own weapons stockpiles as well as strengthen its strategic relationship with Ukraine.

Overall, this significant commitment by the US to support Ukraine during ongoing conflict shows that it remains a strong ally in Europe and beyond.
