Dr. Jennifer Baldwin of UConn Health was recognized as a 2024 Connecticut Hospital Association Healthcare Hero for her remarkable contributions to the hospitalist program and patient care. As the director of hospital medicine, Baldwin played a crucial role in expanding the hospitalist program and launching a successful nocturnist program to address rising evening patient volumes. Her leadership during the peak of the COVID crisis was also commendable, as she effectively staffed the hospitalist service and took on additional clinical responsibilities as needed.

Baldwin’s nomination highlighted her commitment to educating residents and medical students, as well as her dedication to patient safety. Her efforts in creating a culture of safety and high reliability at John Dempsey Hospital have earned national accolades. Each member hospital of the CHA nominated a Healthcare Hero to recognize exceptional contributions to healthcare workers and their communities.

Upon receiving the Healthcare Hero Award, Baldwin expressed gratitude and thanked her colleagues at UConn Health for their hard work and dedication to improving patient outcomes. She emphasized that working with compassionate individuals who strive for continuous improvement makes her work meaningful and allows UConn Health to provide the highest-quality care to all patients. Baldwin is a 2004 graduate of the UConn School of Medicine.

The CHA’s annual meeting featured a celebration of healthcare heroes where honorees received a proclamation from Gov. Lamont’s office recognizing their outstanding leadership and professional accomplishments in the healthcare sector. The proclamation praised these honorees for their excellence and extraordinary service to their communities, organizations, and the state of Connecticut.
