On Tuesday, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, the UAE’s Minister of Defense and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, visited the White House in Washington to meet with his US counterpart Jake Sullivan. During the meeting, Sheikh Tahnoon discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern with Sullivan, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
The UAE recently secured a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft for local artificial intelligence champion G42, with support from the Biden administration. This investment highlights Abu Dhabi’s alignment with the world’s biggest economy in terms of technology development.
Sheikh Tahnoon’s visit to Washington was accompanied by a delegation of Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund executives. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries. Prior to his visit to the White House, Sheikh Tahnoon met with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt M. Campbell at the State Department. Their discussions focused on artificial intelligence and driving economic growth both bilaterally and in regions like Africa and India.
The meetings underscored the UAE’s commitment to advancing innovation and technology with support from its international partners. The country aims to form a strong partnership with the US in technology development, as highlighted by Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence.
