On May 31, the Penn National Race Course will host two major races, the $400,000 Penn Mile Stakes (G3T) and the $150,000 Penn Oaks race. The Penn Mile Stakes will feature 10 3-year-olds competing for the top prize of $400,000. Among the competitors are graded stakes winners First World War and Trikari.

First World War, owned by Qatar Racing and Hunter Valley Farm, will be ridden by Frankie Dettori for the first time. The son of War Front has been focusing on grass races lately and recently won the Kitten’s Joy Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park. Trikari, owned by Amerman Racing, surprised many with a win in the American Turf (G2T) at Churchill Downs at odds of 47-1. The son of Oscar Performance has been improving steadily with three wins in his last four starts.

Other stakes winners in the field include Aspenite, Good Lord Lorrie, Please Advise, Set and Freedom Principle. The Penn Mile Stakes will take place at 7:45 p.m. ET on May 31.

In addition to the Penn Mile Stakes, the $150,000 Penn Oaks race has also drawn some graded stakes power with horses like Pounce and Nice as Pie in the lineup. Pounce, owned by Resolute Racing, is looking to rebound after a disappointing showing in the Appalachian Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland while Nice as Pie is making her two-turn debut after a win streak was snapped in the Mamzelle Stakes at Churchill Downs.

The Penn Oaks and Mile races will take place on May 31 with post times of 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively
