The southern Mexican state of Veracruz was hit by Tropical Storm ‘Chris’ on Sunday night, with the center of the storm making landfall in the town of Lechuguillas. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico, the third hydrometeorological phenomenon of the 2024 season presented maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (km/h), gusts of 85 km/h, and moving west at 20 km/h.

The National Water Commission (With water) detailed in its latest report that Tropical Storm Chris hit the municipality of Vega de Alatorre at 10:50 p.m. (04:50 GMT). The SMN also forecast wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h, possible formation of waterspouts, and waves between two and four meters high on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Tabasco.

The Mexican Meteorological Service warned of extraordinary rains in Hidalgo, Puebla, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, and Veracruz; in addition to torrential rains in Oaxaca and Tamaulipas; and intense rainfall in Campeche, Chiapas, Nuevo León, and Tabasco. The SMN also urged the population to heed official warnings, follow the recommendations of Civil Protection, and take extreme precautions against rain
