In Volusia County, three juvenile sea turtles were successfully rehabilitated by the Marine Science Center and released back into the ocean. Named Manchego, Nettle, and Swiss, the turtles had been found in various locations between March and April with ailments such as pneumonia and a missing left front flipper due to predation.

After receiving treatment and rehabilitation at the center, veterinarian Brooke Burkhalter deemed the turtles ready for release. Despite Swiss’s missing flipper, Burkhalter confirmed that it was still able to swim effectively. The release took place at the Beach Street ramp in Ponce Inlet, where locals gathered to witness the event.

The weather and ocean conditions were ideal for their return home without any issues. The successful rehabilitation and release of these turtles were made possible by the efforts of the Marine Science Center in Volusia County.
