Southeast Polk football team and Dike-New Hartford volleyball team were honored as the Boys and Girls Teams of the Year at the Iowa High School Sports Awards, presented by SCHEELS. The event took place at Hoyt-Sherman Place in Des Moines and recognized over 250 Iowa student-athletes.

The Boys Team of the Year finalists included Ames baseball and Des Moines Hoover soccer, while the Girls Team of the Year finalists were Johnston basketball and North Scott volleyball. Southeast Polk’s football team has built an impressive legacy with three consecutive state championships. This year, they defeated Ankeny to secure their third title in a row, adding to their previous two victories. Over the past three years, Southeast Polk has only suffered two losses and achieved a perfect 14-0 record this season. This remarkable feat has solidified their place as one of the best large classification teams in Iowa history.

On the other hand, Dike-New Hartford volleyball team had an outstanding season with an incredible 50-0 record. They dominated their competition, dropping only one set throughout the entire season, against 5A state finalist Dowling Catholic. Led by the Petersen twins, Payton and Jadyn, the Wolverines secured their first state championship since 2021 by defeating Hinton in the final. Their impressive performance has established them as one of the greatest teams in Iowa state history, winning by an average of over 11 points per set.

Cookies Food Products awarded Southeast Polk’s football team and Dike-New Hartford’s volleyball team for their outstanding achievements on and off the field. These teams have not only excelled in sports but also demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, sportsmanship, and community service throughout their careers
