Athletes from across the nation descended upon Cambridge, Maryland for the annual Eagleman Race. The event drew participants who brought their bikes to engage in a weekend of running, cycling, and swimming. Stefano Bono, owner of Carmela’s Cucina, highlighted that his restaurant offered a specific dish that helped fuel triathletes during the races – an abundance of carbs. Bono emphasized that carbs were transformed into energy, essential for endurance athletes. Moreover, the restaurant catered to individuals with dietary restrictions by providing a variety of gluten-free alternatives.

Research conducted in 2022 revealed that the Eagleman Race contributed $4.8 million to the local economy of Cambridge. However, Bill Cristopher, President of the Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, predicted even higher figures this year. According to Cristopher, on average, each athlete brought 1.7 people along with them, resulting in nearly three people per athlete arriving in the city. He noted that events like the Eagleman Race not only generated revenue for the local economy but also attracted visitors who may decide to stay longer. Some participants have even become long-term residents after falling in love with the area during the race and decided to buy homes in the region and become part of the community either full-time or part-time. This influx of visitors turned residents is a key factor behind sustained economic growth in the area.
