In the 2026, the X Games will undergo a major transformation, moving to a global, team-based format. This shift will see the focus on snowsports in the winter and skateboarding, BMX, and motocross in the summer change to a more comprehensive model. Inspired by Formula One, each league will consist of four global events and four teams, showcasing seasonal action sports from both summer and winter disciplines.

This new league aims to provide athletes with more stability through annual income, benefits and commercial opportunities. The teams will be selected through an industry-wide draft with nominated athletes forming the teams. Those not chosen will remain as alternate athletes. Professional winter sport athletes such as Svea Irving from Winter Park and Nick Goepper from Lawrenceburg have reacted positively to this news. Goepper praised the X Games for innovation while Irving expressed that transitioning to a team-based format is significant.
