The Vietnam – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) hosted a workshop that highlighted the importance of improving ginseng growing techniques, scientific research, and quality inspection standards in order to fully utilize Vietnamese ginseng. A Korean professor emphasized the need for Vietnam to catch up with Korea in terms of scientific publications and research on ginseng, and develop farming methods and preserve genetic resources.

Experts at the workshop discussed the chemical composition, biological activity, and quality control of ginseng, stressing the need to protect the diverse genetic resources of Vietnamese ginseng. They also shared experiences in building standards for testing and certifying the quality of health care products made from ginseng, drawing on Korea’s industry laws and national standards.

Successful breeding and cultivation of Vietnamese ginseng have contributed to economic development in regions like Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Lam Dong, and Lai Chau. Standardized growing processes and quality control measures have been implemented to ensure the quality of Vietnamese ginseng.

Efforts are being made to develop quality standards for ginseng and ginseng-based health care products that meet international regulations and practices. Vietnam is looking to learn from Korea’s successful experiences and techniques and apply them to ginseng production practices in the country. The Ministry of Science and Technology has been supporting these efforts by providing technology transfer from Korea to Vietnamese businesses. There are plans to create research projects for technology transfer and production cooperation to further enhance the quality
