Memphis has appointed Ed Scott, a former sports administrator at Virginia, as its new athletic director and senior vice president. Prior to joining Memphis, Scott worked at the University of Virginia where he oversaw several sports programs including men’s basketball, baseball, swimming and diving, and track and field. He also served as a special adviser to the head football coach.

During his time at Virginia, Scott made significant contributions to the athletic department. President Bill Hardgrave expressed his excitement in having Scott as part of the Tiger family, praising him as a forward-thinking and transformative leader.

Scott is excited about the opportunity to lead the Memphis athletic department and recognizes the potential for success within the university. He looks forward to working with coaches, athletes, staffers, and supporters to achieve greatness. With the departure of former athletic director Laird Veatch, Scott is ready to step into his new role and continue the tradition of excellence at Memphis.
