During the conference “Science and technology – the key to reducing natural disaster risks, responding to climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development,” Professor Thuc emphasized the importance of scientific progress in natural disaster prediction. However, he also stressed the need to explore the application of artificial intelligence for earlier forecasting.

Professor Thuc highlighted the significant role that science and technology play in hydrometeorological observation, analysis, and forecasting. He noted improvements in monitoring systems, with automatic stations replacing manual ones, and the implementation of weather radar, lightning positioning, and satellite technologies. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of utilizing supercomputers and computing technology for data analysis.

Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh also underscored the challenges posed by climate change and emphasized the role of science and technology in forecasting, preventing, and mitigating natural disasters. He called for scientists to explore new directions and innovative solutions to enhance disaster risk reduction efforts effectively.

Similarly, Deputy Minister Tran Hong Thai urged researchers to promote digital transformation and artificial intelligence in hydrometeorology to address climate change challenges efficiently. The conference participants discussed leveraging advanced technologies such as cloud computing, IoT, big data, and artificial intelligence in climate change research and natural disaster risk reduction strategies.
