A passenger traveling from London to Singapore has tragically passed away after experiencing severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight. The incident occurred on flight SQ321, which departed from the UK on Monday night. Several other passengers also sustained injuries during the flight, which was forced to divert to Bangkok 11 hours into the journey.

This marks the second fatal incident in the airline’s 77-year history, with the previous one happening in 2000 when a plane attempted to take off on the wrong runway. Reports from Thailand’s 3PlusNews indicate that 30 people were injured during the flight, which had a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board. Images circulating on social media showed ambulances parked next to the plane at Bangkok Airport, where medical assistance was provided to those in need.

Severe turbulence can cause injuries such as passengers hitting the cabin ceiling, but fatalities are uncommon. Incidents of turbulence-related injuries are reported from time to time, with a recent case in December involving an Air New Zealand passenger breaking his leg due to turbulence.
