A Japanese climber has tragically passed away while attempting to climb one of the highest mountains in northern Pakistan, with search efforts still ongoing to locate his missing climbing partner. Karrar Haidri, the secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, confirmed that rescuers found the body of one of the missing Japanese climbers after a lengthy search operation on the Spantik Peak, also known as Golden Peak.
The Golden Peak is distinguished by its golden hue during sunrise and sunset, making it a popular destination for climbers. Pakistani authorities are coordinating with the Japanese Embassy in Islamabad to confirm the identity of the deceased climber. The Pakistan Alpine Club had previously identified the missing climbers as Ryuseki Hiraoka and Atsushi Taguchi, who were attempting to summit the 7,027-meter (23,000-foot) Spantik Peak.
Each year, numerous climbers lose their lives in Pakistan while trying to conquer some of the world’s highest mountains, including K2 in the northern region of the country. The search for the missing Japanese climber is still ongoing, with hopes of locating him soon.
