On Sunday, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested Nathan Kelly, 46, after he allegedly fired bullets into a neighbor’s apartment and a Carson Street business. According to a news release from CCSO, Kelly was initially found by deputies standing on the corner of Carson and Musser streets with a high-powered rifle, screaming into the air. He told deputies that he suffers from a mental health condition and had consumed six alcoholic beverages.

Later on Sunday, deputies investigated a gunshot through the northeast door of the Valero gas station at 1360 S. Carson St. Surveillance video showed Kelly walking in front of the doors with a high-powered rifle around 3:10 a.m. A search of Kelly’s apartment revealed five handguns, a .45-caliber rifle, and a Mossberg shotgun. During the search, a neighbor living below Kelly’s apartment reported finding a hole in the ceiling. They mentioned being away that morning and returning around 2 a.m. to discover the hole above the center of their living room. Deputies determined that the hole was caused by a bullet fired downward from Kelly’s apartment.

Kelly’s breathalyzer test indicated a .174 blood alcohol level, and he also admitted to smoking marijuana. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to contact CCSO Sgt. T.J. Boggan with case number 24-3369.
