When Wayne police officers arrived at the Newberry Square Apartments on Tuesday afternoon, they found Zook in his third-floor apartment, covered in blood, with his 4-year-old son asleep in a bedroom.

Despite their best efforts to de-escalate the situation, Zook was still armed with a knife and had self-inflicted wounds. The officers attempted to use a taser, which was unsuccessful, and Zook then charged towards them. In response, one officer fired several shots, ultimately leading to Zook’s death. The child was unharmed and safely removed from the apartment.
